What to Know When Searching

Ask friends, planners, and photographers

Word of mouth is the best way to find a vendor. Ask your friends for honest reviews. See if their expectations were met or exceeded by the wedding videographer in question. Ask if they would have done anything different after going through the process.

Websites

It doesn’t matter if you live in Booger Hole, West Virginia or Forks of Salmon, CA (both real places), theknot.com and weddingwire.com are here for all your wedding video needs! But seriously, from Rochester to Chicago and Milwaukee to Tampa these authoritative resources can help find the best wedding videographers. Please note: these websites are actually owned by the same company- They have the online wedding advertising business cornered. Wedding vendors must pay a hefty fee to be featured on the first pages of these platforms. So if you do peruse these sites, be sure to do some digging (looking at you Booger Hole). There are gems on page 2, 3, 4, 5 ….!

Social Media

Social media is great because it can upgrade your wedding video search to a global level! You can find wedding videographers from Italy, England, or Chicago:) Be warned that vendors can advertise on Facebook and Instagram just like the reference websites listed above.

Beware of Buzzwords

There are articles out there trying to categorize wedding videographers into words like “journalistic”, “short form”, “story-telling”, “cinematic”. The truth is, everybody makes short-form wedding videos, everybody tells a story, everyone has a cinematic look. These words can muddy your search. If you find a wedding videographer whose body of work shakes you in the feels, it doesn’t really matter if a buzz word is attached.
